Opening Statement
Sunrise Waldorf School is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and collaborative Subject Teacher to join our faculty beginning in the 2026鈥2027 school year. This position combines French instruction, Physical and Health Education (PHE), and extracurricular athletics within a vibrant and supportive school community.
We are looking for an educator who brings warmth, creativity, and strong pedagogical insight to their work with children. The successful candidate will inspire students through engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons while fostering meaningful relationships grounded in respect, inclusion, and care. An appreciation for Waldorf education and child development is highly valued.

Founded in 1980, Sunrise Waldorf School is situated on a beautiful seven-acre campus in the Cowichan Valley near Duncan, BC. As a full 海角社区 member school and Group One Independent School under the BC Ministry of Education, Sunrise offers Preschool through the middle grades within a rich and artistic Waldorf curriculum. Essential Job Duties
The Subject Teacher will:
- Teach French language classes for Grades 1鈥8 through songs, stories, games, movement, conversation, and cultural activities
- Deliver Physical and Health Education classes for upper elementary and middle grades, informed by both the BC curriculum and Waldorf educational principles
- Organize and support extracurricular athletics and sports opportunities for students
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and administration to support student growth and wellbeing
- Contribute to the broader life of the school through festivals, events, performances, and community activities
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, preparation, and delivery of engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons
- Assessment, documentation, and written reporting of student learning
- Establishing warm, respectful, and well-managed classroom environments
- Clear and responsive communication with parents and caregivers
- Participation in faculty meetings, committees, and collaborative school initiatives
- Supervision duties supporting student safety and wellbeing
- Coordination and support of extracurricular sports and athletic programming
- Ongoing professional development and study
Qualifications
- BC Teaching Certificate or eligibility to teach in an independent school setting
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent training
- Experience teaching French and/or Physical and Health Education
- Fluency in oral and written French
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Interest in, training in, or experience with Waldorf education
- Ability to work collaboratively within a collegial school environment
