Opening Statement

Mountaintop Waldorf Children’s Garden is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to lead one of our mixed-age early childhood classes for the 2026–2027 school year. Our programs serve children ages 18 months to 6 years in a beautiful environment. We are seeking a lead teacher for a group of children ages 3-4 1/2.

Mountaintop Waldorf Children’s Garden as a full member of WECAN is celebrating its 20th year serving families in Saugerties, New York and the surrounding Catskill Mountain region. Nestled on three wooded acres, our program is deeply rooted in outdoor education, with children spending the majority of their days immersed in nature. Each class has its own dedicated classroom and adjacent play yard, supporting a strong connection between indoor and outdoor environments. Mountaintop has grown into a vibrant, supportive community known for high-quality early childhood education and care.

Essential Job Duties

The lead teacher will guide a class of up to 15 children, creating a balanced and rhythmic daily experience rooted in Waldorf pedagogy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading circle time, storytelling, and daily classroom activities
  • Planning and carrying out seasonal crafts 
  • Cultivating a consistent daily rhythm
  • Communicating with parents through weekly updates, conferences, and class meetings
  • Collaborating with colleagues in weekly pedagogical and full faculty meetings
  • Preparation for and participation in festivals throughout the year
  • Maintaining classroom aesthetic and cleanliness 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children in a Waldorf setting
  • Completed or currently enrolled in a Waldorf early childhood teacher training program
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A genuine love of working with children 
  • Willing to be outdoors in all weather conditions
  • A commitment to continued education and personal development
