Students Who Inquire, Learn

When students generate their own questions around a subject, they deepen their knowledge of the topic and their ability to remember it.

German Researchers from the University of Kassel wanted to learn if students generating their own test questions would be an effective learning strategy.

revealed that having students generate questions, and then gradually asking more probing questions, was more effective for learning than typical practices such as studying notes or rereading classroom material.

Students who studied a topic and then generated their own questions scored an average of 14% higher on a test than students who used other strategies.
