Waldorf Teacher in the News for Sustainable Gardening

 teacher Mary-lu Spinney was recently featured in  for growing her vegetables in a manner that regenerates soil through indigenous planting methods.

Once such method, called “Three Sisters,” involves growing corn until it reaches about a foot tall, then adding pole beans to grow up the stalks like a trellis, allowing the beans return nitrogen to the soil.

Spinney spoke of specifically about one method she teachers her 9th graders. The article says, 鈥淭hey dig a large hole several feet deep, toss in logs and sticks, then add soil to form the basis of a garden bed. Like peat moss, locally sourced logs absorb and hold water, gradually breaking down to add fibre and nutrients to the soil.鈥
